MIL-STD-1553 Cards are available in a variety of form factors. The selection of a card depends on many factors. The enviorment that the MIL-STD-1553 card is used in has a very large influence on your selection.
MIL-STD-1553 cards are available in testing formats for lab use and code generation, and in rugged formats for embedded applications in field use.
Depending on the system that the card will be used in will also determine the form factor. If the intent of the device is to be used on a laptop for portability, you would select either an ExpressCard, a PCMCIA, or a USB. For embedded applications, you would select a form factor to fit the chassis connection in the application.
